From the Cleveland Clinic website:
The heart pumps blood to the rest of the body. During each heart beat, the two upper chambers of the heart (atria) contract, followed by the two lower chambers (ventricles). These actions, when timed perfectly, allow for an efficient pump. The timing of the heart’s contractions is directed by the heart’s electrical system.
The electrical impulse begins in the sinoatrial (SA node), located in the right atrium. Normally, the SA node adjusts the rate of impulses, depending on the person’s activity. For example, the SA node increases the rate of impulses during exercise and decreases the rate of impulses during sleep.
When the SA node fires an impulse, electrical activity spreads through the right and left atria, causing them to contract and force blood into the ventricles. The impulse travels to the
atrioventricular (AV) node, located in the septum (near the middle of the heart). The AV node is the only electrical bridge that allows the impulses to travel from the atria to the ventricles. The impulse travels through the walls of the ventricles, causing them to contract. They squeeze and pump blood out of the heart. The right ventricle pumps blood to the lungs, and the left ventricle pumps blood to the body.
A-Fib (or atrial fibrillation) happens when electrical signals don’t fire when directed. The SA node fires off a signal to the AV node, but the AV node decides to fire it’s own way in a
seemingly indiscriminate way. MY heart doctor told me it’s like have two quarterbacks on the same football team both on the field at the same time. When a play is called by the main
quarterback (SA node) the team prepares to execute the play. But a split second later, the AV node fires of another called play that’s different than the first call, thus confusing the rest of
the team. Chaos results.
How many times in our daily lives have we been victim to mixed signals because we forgot who was on the field? The Holy Spirit is the main play caller in any believer’s life. James 1:5-8
says:“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”
A double minded person is just as unstable as a heart with serious a-fib. Satan tries his best to get into our heads and present flawed data, situations, or out-and-out lies and deceptions. So, when we are concentrating on doing God’s work at home, at our jobs, or in our churches; remember which voice we are listening to. Jesus allows signals to get through, But they don’t get through to make us mess up. The Lord lets them through so we can tell the difference!!!
“Believe in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding. Acknowledge Him in all ways, and He will direct your paths.”
“Lord, we don’t get a-fib in our elbows, knuckles, or knees. We get it in our hearts. The things Satan wants is to break into our hearts and give us mixed signals. So please be with all of us
who will be reading this blog, and defining the best way forward. Reveal that our emotional hearts have a much more intense susceptibility to damage from not following the Holy Spirit’s urging. Strengthen us!!! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
