One of my favorite passages in Scripture is Ecclesiastes 3:1-14. Here we find the wise King Solomon declaring that “there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”

These words are nowhere more true than in our everyday work. It’s wise advice for the senior executive who must raise up a successor rather than burnish extended accomplishments; for the company whose legacy product is celebrated in the history of the industry, but is no longer competitive in the marketplace; for the employee who has labored faithfully for years in one role, but is starved for a fresh challenge.

Always remember Solomon’s closing remarks here, that “there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live.” What is your time and season at work? Is it time to do good by doing something different?
