In the most amazing way, right from the outset of Biblical scripture, God confirms that we are made in His image (Genesis 1:26-27). Despite the Fall of humanity in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3), all of us are nonetheless called to bear the image of God. In a sense we are to be like mirrors, reflecting our Creator into the creation around us, and reflecting back to God both our praise and our lament. We seek to cultivate good in the world through all of our lives (Genesis 2:15), including our work (Ephesians 2:10). We are also called to restore the image of God, to be a generational part of a giant “reclamation” project underway to bring justice, mercy and humility back to the forefront of human existence (Micah 6:8). Each Easter season reminds us that Jesus was willing to bear the full weight of all our sin in the world, so that we can walk in freedom as we bear the responsibilities and opportunities of faithful Christians on mission in the world. This Spring season, come bear with me!
