An engine roared to life, seemingly under some heavy load. It didn’t sound like a relaxed, smooth hum; but a laboring struggle. It kind of sounded like a lawn mower engine, but it wasn’t. It was an engine LIKE a lawnmower engine, but was on a different piece of equipment. It was on a pressure washer.
A pressure washer operates under the principle of taking power and boosting the force of water into a jet of focused high speed. The shape of the hole at the end of the hose is designed for various applications. A larger hole in the tip is usually used for soap application and gentle pressure requirements. A smaller hole produces much higher speed and blasting power. There is even a slotted tip which produces a wide angle spray pattern which is like a fan-shape stream of water.
So why do we HAVE pressure washers? Answer: To remove a buildup of undesirable material, and bring out the underlying character of what’s underneath.
- When a back wooden deck gets pressure washed; the mold, moss, crust, bug nests, and darkened deposits get literally blown off.
- When a concrete walk or driveway gets pressure washed; the algae, the dirt, the leaves and other tree debris, and oil leak spots get blown away
- When vinyl siding gets pressure washed; the mold, the algae, and the air borne dirt build-up is blown away.
When we receive Christ, and repent of our sins, and turn to Him for cleansing; He takes the most awesome spiritual pressure wash, and blasts our sins away with His blood. Redemption! We become a NEW person! How? By blasting all the iniquity, sin, and unholiness away. We are a new creature! We are exposed! We trust in Him! We are vulnerable! We are pure at that moment in time! We are ready to accept unconditional love, and He gives it!And when we are already believers, He also does a periodic maintenance cleanup per our request to maintain our appearance so when people look at us, they see HIM!
Ephesians 4:21-24 says:”… ifindeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.”
Colossians 3:8-11 says: “But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.
Spiritually, when our Lord does a pressure wash to us:
- It cleans us up so we can resemble Him again.
- It exposes the hidden defects and areas that He shows that are not safe or healthy spiritually.
- It allows us to see where those personal repairs have to be made to restore us and bring us back into deeper fellowship with our creator.
“Lord, thank You for providing those deep cleanings that we request to bring us back into a close walk with You. Sometimes a build-up on us and in us is so gradual; that the crusty behavior, the ill temper, the wandering eye, the dark thought life go without our notice. Thank You foralways being faithful in restoring us! We love You, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
