I drove by an auto repair facility and there was a sign out front that said, “Free Brake Jobs Tomorrow”.
As I reviewed that sign, I started laughing. Funny, but deceptive sign. The next day, the sign was still out. So, no matter when you stopped by to get that “free” brake job, they would always say, “Well, that’s tomorrow.” In other words, there will NEVER be a free brake job TODAY.
It’s also amazing how many of us intentionally desire to accomplish things TODAY, but they end up trying to be done “tomorrow”. Simply put, they didn’t get done today, so they didn’t get done. Things get done only if they actually GET DONE. When the Bible says in II Corinthians 6:2 – “For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured (given assistance to) thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. Notice it does not say “tomorrow”. Some decisions in this life cannot be postponed.
I have heard the saying, “There are just not enough hours in the day.” That translates to I won’t be able to get everything done today than was planned. Look at the words: “procrastinated” or “overwhelmed” or “overloaded” or “overcommitted”…… These describe the paradigm of too many things to do, and not enough time to do them.
I found in my career that plans make NO time for interruptions, emergencies, delays, supply chain hiccups, funerals, poor quality that demands doing things all over again, or people who think they can impose misjudgments in THEIR planning into your plans to make them look less bad. Making intentional plans for CERTAIN MAJOR things and allowing for some flexibility is critical for large projects. But personal life can be quite the same. If we plan a rigid schedule; we will be frustrated in too many red lights in traffic, stressed out when doctor appointments take too long or waiting too long in the waiting room, or someone not getting back to us about a topic in a timely manner to mesh with others’ plans.
When Jesus says in John 4:35 – “Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest? Behold, I say unto you, lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
The Lord is saying prioritize. The harvest is key. Growing in Christ is key. Including prayer times in your day are key. Being in the attitude of grace all day is key. Allow God to plan YOUR schedule. What does HE want you to put on your “do list”? Yield to Him. Do not yield to over demands….
“Lord, thank You for giving us a mind to embrace what is before us. But Lord, watch over us and help trim things out unnecessary stuff out of our schedule so we can be productive for You TODAY! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
