In Exodus 31:1-3, God guides Moses to select Bezalel as leader for construction of the Ark of the Covenant, and He does so with a powerful endorsement: “I have chose Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability, and knowledge in all kinds of crafts . . . “Bezalel is the first person in scripture described as “filled with the Spirit”, and Bezalel completely fulfills his calling as a master craftsman. I have often pondered this thought. The Holy Spirit is within all Christians, and we also have vocational callings to complete, but in how many of us does God’s spirit really shine on the outside through the quality of our work?
