We live in a face paced world.  Unfortunately, it seems to be getting even faster and the expectations placed upon us greater also.  No wonder stress is such a common foe to our health and peace.  As I age, I find myself having less patience in most situations.   There is one category in which I’m improving.  That area being my schedule.  Let’s face it, how we manage our calendar or business schedule effects our success.  No matter how hard we try, there will always be surprises.

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth. Proverbs 27:1

What gives me peace and purpose with the sudden changes popping up regularly is this…It’s not my schedule, it’s God’s and if it changes there’s probably a good reason.  Maybe the client being late results in that individual avoiding a terrible accident.  Sometimes the schedule change makes my schedule work even better.  So I might be running a bit behind and the next appointment is running late.  Perfect!   But even when the change is inconvenient it’s still good, because it’s God’s schedule.  I would much rather be on HIS schedule than my own.

Now listen, you say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.  Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life?  You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”  James 4:13-14

I’m not saying we shouldn’t plan.  One of my favorite quotes is, “a failure to plan is a plan to fail.” Napolian Hill (author of Think and Grow Rich).  Remember, God’s plans trumps ours.  So the next time your schedule frees up 15-20 minutes, realize that could be the break you need to close your door, turn off the noise and speak to your Heavenly Father.  Maybe give a call of encouragement to  that friend or loved one, whose been on your mind the past week.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.  Romans 8:28.   There is a reason for unexpected interruptions.  Sometimes they’re natural and sometimes they’re supernatural.  As followers of Christ our schedule should be more about significance that success.
