The mile markers flipped by. The odometer reading kept changing, mile after mile. We all grew more and more excited. We were getting closer and closer!
Letters we had received describing our destination brought visions of high expectations! Our GPS indicated we were getting closer and closer. The signs were now popping up along the way advertising the different aspects of where we were heading! Emotions were running higher and higher!
We also noticed something else. There were also many who were NOT heading there? Why? We don’t know….. But one sure thing. If you are NOT heading there, you will NOT get there!
One such travel is towards a beautiful vacation spot.
One such destination is where we will meet a finally reconciled family member or friendship that had been tragically compromised by a circumstance that happened long ago.
One such expected stopping point could be something on a “bucket list” that had been planned for years and finally was coming to fruition.
One travel that happened in 1912 was when the Titanic left the British Isles for New York. Everyone was excited that this “unsinkable” monster of a ship was passing all parameters of luxury, speed, and safety. Except, there was no getting there. The expectations of first class passengers was much different than the ones in 3rd class.
The closer we get, the more anticipation rises! The adrenalin ramps up! The kids are wide awake because the stories and visions of what to expect are building!
As believers, we know there are many who are heading in the wrong direction. And at the same time the “letters” written to us from the Bible become more and more evident! The signs of Jesus’ return are becoming increasingly apparent and observable. This is the case in technology, in weather, in human biological manipulation, in finance, in government, and in world conflicts. The earth itself is “groaning” with SO many earthquakes and volcanic incidents. The creation is preparing for Jesus’ return.
So, WE should be excited! We should be pointing to what’s inevitable to all around us. We should be “waking up” those at our work, at our communities, and our places of leisure and recreation that HE is coming to earth for a second time! How close are we? We were used to hearing: “Are we there yet?”
“Lord, thank You for bringing us to the point where we can answer; “YES, we are almost there!” Lord, Your Scripture comes to life as our journey is close at hand! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
