What gives lift is not the engines OR the pilot. Due to the construction of the wing, it’s the air moving OVER the wing that provides lift. Think about that. The shape or profile of an aircraft wing is such that lift occurs only when air passes across the wing. The air must pass over the upper surface of the wing as well as the lower surface.
So a pilot sitting on a runway won’t get off the ground. A wing sitting on the runway won’t get off the ground. A pilot sitting on a wing won’t get off the ground. So, what’s the purpose of any of this? It is the movement of air that allows the purpose of flight. And flight is an entity; and when harnessed, can be very purposeful. Without air movement, there can be no flight. For those who know technically, a hot air balloon is an “air craft”, it goes up and comes down only depending on a source of hot air (and it doesn’t have to be an election year).
But the purpose of an aircraft is to be guided in certain directions at different speeds heading for determined locations. A hot air balloon has no such purpose. It is veritably aimless.
When a hurricane approaches an area with an airport, the aircraft must be tied down if left outside. Why? Because the higher speed air moving over the wings on an aircraft cause lift on a stationary aircraft. Planes have been seen on video flipping over in a storm because one side lifted just a little faster than the other side.
Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still and know that I am God….” Please understand being “still” doesn’t necessarily mean “stop”. We can’t stop in life. We have to keep moving. But being “still” requires us to intentionally be active in worship of our God! One day last week, during a project involving a major bathroom remodeling job, I looked up at the sky and observed the bluest sky I had ever seen! I ceased from the physical activity for a few moments to intentionally study that sky and worship the One who made it so!!! It was a deliberate effort! God’s wind over my wings lifted me from my previous status to a higher level seeing that sky. I didn’t stop from everything. I was active!!! When we pray with energy, passion, and deliberation; we haven’t stopped. We have become involved in high energy spiritual work! We have been lifted!
As we seek the Lord in our lives, whether it be at home or at work, we must keep moving in our spiritual growth and maturity to allow the Lord to keep lifting us. Even as an aircraft is “still”, it can be lifted when allowed. When going fast down a runway, lifting can occur, as well. It’s only when we “stop” growing in Christ; when we cease our worship of our Creator and Savior, when we deliberately tie ourselves down to things of this world, that our soaring will end. Embrace our speed into God’s will, as well as His speed across our lives.
“Lord, Isaiah 40:31 says, “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint…” Remember the Lord is the wind beneath our wings. We are not pigeons. We are eagles. Thank You, Lord for providing when we most need it!InJesus’ Name, Amen.”
