In today’s bustling world, it’s easy to forget the greater purpose God has for our professional lives. As Christians, we’re called to weave our faith into every part of our existence, including (and especially) our careers. Through my experiences with AWOP and other groups of professional believers, I’ve realized that being a good steward where God places me in business isn’t just possible—it’s essential.
Biblical Foundations: Loving Others and Stewardship
The Bible is rich with teachings about love and stewardship. Jesus’ command in John 13:34-35 is clear: “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” This love isn’t confined to our personal lives; it extends to our professional relationships. Showing love and care at work, while not always easy or straightforward, mirrors Christ’s love and is what we are called to do.
1 Peter 4:10 underscores our role as stewards with the verse, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” This teaching invites us to shift our perspective from focusing on personal gain to serving others and honoring God with our work. The concept of being “faithful stewards” is further illustrated in the parable of the Servants and the Talents. This parable powerfully demonstrates that believers are expected to be good stewards of the resources and talents God has entrusted to them. If we fail to do so, God will find others who will fulfill this role. This is (and should be) sobering for each one of us. I wonder what could be accomplished if everyone reading this viewed our jobs/positions as not just for our benefit but to be used in service to others and to further God’s kingdom.

Norm and Truett’s examples show the profound impact of integrating faith into the workplace. By seeing ourselves as stewards and loving others as Christ commanded, we can create work environments that are productive, nurturing, and supportive. This approach aligns with God’s higher calling, making our professional lives a testament to His love and grace.
As believers, let’s be inspired by God’s commands and the roles He has given us. Rather than feeling guilt about what we have not done, let us “…commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” – Proverbs 16:3. By doing so, we can transform our work environment and relationships, reflecting His love to those around us and fulfilling our role as stewards of God’s grace.
