During Lent, many Christians focus on Jesus. And often, that focus leads to a deep dive into the Last Supper, and the long exposition Jesus gave his disciples right before he was betrayed by Judas, and led to his death.

We’ll rehearse it a bit and expand on what it means for you in the Marketplace, and actually, in all of Reality. But let me state it plainly here one more time, explaining why I’m sharing it and what it means for you.

The Solidarity of All Creation (Even the Marketplace) With Jesus Christ

A Christ-Centered View of Reality

• The Creator and God/human Jesus Christ is the central truth of the cosmos (Col 1:16-17).

Nowhere did Jesus explain this more explicitly than he did in John 14. And please try to read this Scripture with fresh ears. I’ll share the prologue and emphasize the last verse.

John 14:1-6 (New International Version)
Jesus Comforts His Disciples
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”

Jesus the Way to the Father
Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

What this Scripture is NOT Saying
While Christ is true and the fact that He’s the Son of God who saved the world with his life, death, and resurrection, Christ is not just saying “I am a propositional truth” you accept and believe in.
He’s saying, “I AM THE TRUTH.” “I AM THE LIFE. “I AM THE WAY.”
John recorded this in another Scripture he wrote after he wrote the book of John (again, emphases mine)

1 John 1:1-3 (New International Version)
The Incarnation of the Word of Life
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.

Christ is “the” life, period. As the second Person of the Trinitarian God, He shares and is “the” eternal life. And as the Person of the Godhead in which we “live and move and have our being,” He is “the life” of the Cosmos. Period.
He not only gives life. He “is” life. And since all live and move have their being “in” (quite literally) Him, He is “is” the LIFE.

He’s Also “THE WAY”
Jesus Christ is also, quite literally, the “Way” to the Father. That doesn’t just mean He’s the Teacher who tells us about the Father and allows us to know about Him. He is quite literally THE WAY to the Father.

John 14:20 (New International Version)
On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.

Jesus is in the Father, we are “in” Him, so He is the way the uncreated world (including) “gets to” (or simply “is”) in the Father. He’s like our God “Time-travel” (or “Being-travel”) wormhole. We “get” into the Father literally through this miraculous uncreated “Force Field” of Being who is Christ. He’s the ultimate Higgs boson. He gives us creatures of “matter” mass. Think of that next time you celebrate Christmas, or “Christ-Mass.”
It’s simply a celebration of the fact that Jesus Christ is the central truth of the cosmos.

He Is Our Truth—He is Reality
Let me close with some words from the apostle Paul, who was infinitely sci-fi cooler than you’ve ever realized.

Colossians 1:16-17 (New International Version)
For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

And one more, to really get your mind going.

Colossians 2:17 (New International Version)
. . . reality . . . is found in Christ.

And that includes you, me, your office, and the Marketplace.

Christ is the truth of all Reality.

Just realized what got saved when Jesus died and was resurrected this Easter. The rest is just to come. And so it is the best!
