Simple Blessings

For me, 2021 is rapidly emerging as a complicated year, filled with ongoing repair and recovery at work. Some days, surrounded by projects that never seem to end, and obstacles that never seem to bend, I need to cheer myself up with the simple blessings that are always around me, but often escape me. One great example is my son’s dog Zeus. He’s a German Shepherd/Labrador mix, full of energy and curiosity. Adorable as a puppy but living up to his mythological namesake, Zeus is full of mischief even after graduating from obedience school. A couple of weeks ago, as I facilitated a client meeting on Zoom, Zeus decided to pay me a visit. He jumped on top of me, and his 75 pounds toppled my chair, right in front of a dozen meeting participants. I was embarrassed, but they were overjoyed. A tedious meeting was suddenly transformed by comic relief, and now their first question at every meeting is… “Where’s Zeus?!” 😊 For me, this was a playful reminder of God’s counsel in Matthew 6:34, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” What simple blessings are brightening your day at work, that you can celebrate in the midst of relentless pressures and pitfalls?
