The Family Tree

In the “old days”, the adult announcement would come from the maternity ward, “It’s a boy!”

These days, the drama is over as soon as the first ultrasound results come back with confirmation.

So some questions are: Did the baby have ANY choice in who the parents were?     No

Did the parents have any choice in who that baby was going to be like?    No

Did any grandparents have any choice?    No

There are millions of possibilities when a human egg is fertilized. Is it all chance? Or is it completely orchestrated?

Look at this Scripture:   Jeremiah 1:4-5   “ Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou came forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”  (emphasis added by me)  The Lord is saying that HE knew the outcome before there was even intimate activity.    Seize that thought – HE KNOWS.

This physical phenomenon has a direct parallel to the spiritual aspect of propagation. Timothy was NOT Paul’s son, but Timothy is called Paul’s “son“. Why? Because Paul led him to the Lord at the direction of the Holy Spirit. When we lead someone to the foot of the cross, and they receive Jesus as their Savior, we become intimately involved with the creation of the “new man”. The Lord LED us to be that impressionable witness in another person’s life, to give a result of a new creature; a born again individual.

John 15:16 says, “Ye have not chosen me, but  I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Since we cannot pick our brothers or sisters in the physical family, it is also true that we can’t pick those in our spiritual family. How many of us know of a person who we thought would NEVER come to Christ? But DID! And so many times, we have prayed that the Lord send someone our way who needs salvation, but we don’t know WHO. It’s unknown.

Ever wonder how some people are so different than the rest of the family? Why? They were created WITH those differences because someone in the world needed someone with those skill sets. Same as in God’s family.

How is it that I could go to a small Christian church in Nagoya, Japan; and not know ANYONE. Yet, when I entered that church on one Sunday morning, I was welcomed as if I was family! Why? Because I WAS family!!  It wasn’t my physical family, but my spiritual brothers and sisters from Japan, Borneo, Indonesia, Korea, the Philippines!!!   Just as we can verify our physical DNA, our spiritual DNA can be traced back through many faithful believers who shared their faith at work, recreation, and even random conversations.

“Lord, thank You for the structure of family trees where the branches spread into future generations, and thank You for a root system where past generations can rest on. So, let us not get weary in well-doing. Let us embrace each and every opportunity to share our faith in those special times where we allow the Lord to add people to the splendor of God’s creation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
