“I don’t look like that!” Really? Two people standing next to each other stared into the mirror.

“I don’t look like that either!” Really? Then they both turned to each other and cracked up.

That’s the way circus crazy mirrors “portray” people looking into them!

The reflective surface is warped intentionally, so the image coming back at is warped, as well. The thing is; when we KNOW it’s a circus mirror, we EXPECT an image that is way out of control. There are even social media instruments that can alter people’s faces and features to a hilarious degree.

Then, there’s the Hubble telescope. The main mirror on that spacecraft going through our solar system is almost 8 feet across, and weighs almost a ton. It has such an incredible precision surface level that if the mirror was the size of the earth, any imperfection would be only 6 inches high. The mirror gathers light (and sometimes infra-red light) and send it to another smaller mirror for processing into a signal that can be transmitted to earth. True achievement in accuracy!

James chapter 1, verses 22-25 says, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass (reflection – my word): for he beholds himself, and goes his way, and straightway forgets what manner of man he was. But whoso looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

II Corinthians chapter 3, verse 18 says, “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

So, when we look into a regular flat mirror, it has purpose, too. Yes, we see a reflection of ourselves; but it really a reverse image of ourselves. I almost every instance, that doesn’t matter. When we look away from the mirror, we can’t see the “image” anymore. But when we consider that when people look at us, WHO do they really see? Yes, they see “us”, but that image doesn’t disappear. People keep seeing what they see all the time. So, what DO they see?

When we say we are believers in Jesus, people see us differently. When Jesus looks at us, He wants them to see HIM in us. When we say we will be praying for someone or some thing, do people see Jesus in us? When we look into a mirror; do WE see Jesus in the way we talk, the way we listen, or the way we minister to others? There is a continuous observance of our lives by others that God sends our way. So, let’s embrace the vision of Jesus in the mirror looking back at us; to see what we will do.

“Lord, thank You for giving us a measure and material that I can see myself, and let me have the discipline to mold myself into who YOU want me to be, not what I simply “see”. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
