The car wouldn’t start. Everything was normal. EXCEPT No one could find the key…..

A massive, complicated machine that has more electronics on it than the technology that put us on the moon would operate because a little thing was missing. A little thing can be the “key” to major impact. Look, we have a God that is SO big, yet He made the honeybee, so small.

So, how can small things impact things so much? When we think of major human accomplishments of astonishing complexity and scale, we can also think of a man who empties trash for a living. Are both important? Yet the one with all the headlines is always noticed. We might never remember who won the Super Bowl in any given year or an NBA basketball championship, but we WILL remember the one who came alongside us during those times of intense drama, trauma, or happiness. Do not be deceived about the importance of what we think are the “little things” or the “un-noticed humans” around us. Some of those people have major impact behind the scenes in effort, in prayers, in unknown acts of kindness, in secret service to those who are deeply struggling, in outreach to those who feel rejected by those around them, or those caught up in collateral damage due to someone else’s bad judgments or decisions.

Can just ONE person make a difference? Can just ONE small contribution change history? YES!

David slung a small smooth stone at Goliath, What God did with it changed 2 nations. One stone.

A boy’s small lunch was brought to a group of thousands of people where Jesus was speaking. What Jesus did with it fed over 5,000 men plus members of their families. One small lunch.

A stick. A stick? Yes, a stick. But in the hands of Moses, it provided escape and provided direction and protection for 2 million people. What God did in Moses’ hands changed history. One stick.

So, when we fall into the trap of comparing other people with ourselves, regarding the importance in God’s mission and plans; there are NO SMALL players in the body of Christ. The femur bone in the leg and the anvil bone inside the ear are BOTH bones, yet have totally different contributions to the human body. Without either one, life will be noticeably impacted.

We may not be on the stage, in the spotlight, or having a big medal pinned on us; but “the prayers of a righteous man availeth much.” So look around and imagine all of the things that may be accomplished behind human notice. We can be sure that our sovereign God is at work in everyone’s life. Each life. One life.

“Lord, there are tireless workers sweating in the labors of love and worship that everyone notices and no one notices. Small, yet important contributions that are all part of an immense orchestrated celestial symphony of grace, obedience, authenticity, and love. Allow us to perceive the importance in all people.
