Capitalism & Kingdom — Part 2: Whose Kingdom?

A friend of mine tells a story I’ve never forgotten.

He was burned out in ministry and at the end of his rope. He came before God in prayer, expecting comfort or clarity. Instead, he heard:

“I know why you’re here. You want to talk to Me about your church. I want to talk to you about Mine.”

That sentence still sticks with me.

Because if we’re honest, most of us spend a lot of time talking to God about our ministries, our plans, our people. And not nearly enough time asking what’s actually on His mind.

We build things. Launch strategies. Push toward impact. But somewhere along the way, the line blurs, and if we’re not careful we start building something that’s about God, but not necessarily from Him.

That’s the tension:
Are we building His Kingdom—or just putting His name on ours?

When it’s our kingdom, we carry the pressure. We control outcomes. We burn out.
When it’s His, we hold it more loosely. We trust. We release. We rest.

Here’s what I’m learning:

• His Kingdom doesn’t rise or fall on my performance
• His Church doesn’t need my brand to grow
• His work doesn’t depend on my control

So I’m asking the question & maybe you should too:

Whose Kingdom am I really building?

Because if it’s really His,
then I don’t have to carry what was never mine to begin with.
