Far too often, we hear descriptions of work as nothing more than “necessity” or even “drudgery.”  Though not true theologically, I’ve also heard it preached that “work is a curse.” This untruth traces to Genesis 3:17-19, where the ground(NOT work itself) is cursed after the Fall, resulting in work becoming difficult and painful. What we forget is that work is actually a gift, filled with divinely appointed opportunities to serve others to God’s glory, while also meeting our needs. Work is a daily opportunity to be redemptive change agents in a world crying out for help. Our work can bring Kingdom impact into every channel of cultural influence through the wise stewardship of God’s resources, and the promotion of His presence and principles. At its core, work really is a premier expression of worship. Avodah!
